“My relationship with Sunderland is like a love story. It's a place that opened my heart when I was lost - those wide open spaces and the possibilities these suggested to me. The ever-changing sea-sky and all of its colours, the brutal blue sea and its iron silk, how it holds you sometimes in its skirts and glorious sunshine. I love the restless, ever-changing weather and the palettes this creates across sand and sea of my now home.” Sarah Jane Dobbs
Sunderland, once famous for being the largest shipbuilding town in the world, is a bustling port city in the North East of England, where industry and creativity meets the North Sea.
Crafted in collaboration with Aria Art and Movement, a local CIC, renowned for their breathtaking performances in air and water - this sublimation-printed fabric mermaid tail is a tribute to the North East coast and its wild beauty.
The tail features an ethereal turquoise base in varying tones that reflect the shifting hues of the sea and sky, with watercolour patterns derived from locally collected sea glass. These painterly textures evoke both the motion of waves and the softness of Sunderland’s skies. Made from our silky smooth fabric, the tail moves with effortlessly —its flowing fins rippling through water and echoing the fluidity of the sea.
This tail is designed to capture the spirit of Sunderland’s shores - where the sea meets sky.
Fin shape shown created for Fish Fin (Lucia) monofin. Can be adapted for the Mahina, Linden, FF3, or for other fins for use with vinyl.
